Police Foil Terrorist Attack On Borno Convoy, Rescue Five Kidnap Victims
The latest police operations across nine states have highlighted a mix of counter-terrorism, kidnapping, robbery and public-order interventions, with officers recording several arrests and the rescue of abducted victims.
In Borno, police tactical operatives repelled suspected terrorists who attacked a convoy carrying a gubernatorial aspirant, government officials and political stakeholders along the Kareto–Damasak Road on 3 September.
The attackers reportedly used an improvised explosive device and rocket-propelled grenades before retreating into the bush. The convoy was evacuated safely, with no casualties recorded.
Police also reported the rescue of five kidnap victims in Nasarawa and Enugu.
Two women, Margaret Ninje, 41, and Ilisha Lovina, 22, were freed in Nasarawa following sustained security operations, while three hostages were released unharmed in Enugu after tactical pressure was applied to their captors.
Elsewhere, police arrested suspected armed robbery and sexual assault suspects in Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Gombe, recovering a locally made pistol, machetes and a knife/dagger in separate operations.
In Delta, two suspects were arrested with a vehicle loaded with aluminium roofing sheets allegedly stolen from an NYSC camp, while Ekiti police restored calm after a violent clash between youths from Ikogosi-Ekiti and Erijiyan-Ekiti.
The Force said investigations into the various incidents are ongoing, with efforts continuing to track fleeing accomplices and other suspected perpetrators.
