NCDMB Pushes African Capacity, Investment At Africa Oil Week 2026
The push for Africa to turn its vast natural resources into lasting economic power is increasingly shifting from ownership to capacity, with local businesses, skills, technology and regional cooperation at the centre
It is against this backdrop that the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has called for stronger African capacity, regional collaboration and investment to transform the continent’s natural resources into sustainable industrial growth.
It made the call at the Africa Local Content Programme, held as part of Africa Oil Week 2026 in Accra, Ghana, where the NCDMB joined the African Union and Ghana’s Petroleum Commission to examine ways of strengthening Africa’s position across the upstream oil and gas value chain.
Speaking on “From Resource Ownership to Industrial Power,” NCDMB Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, represented by the Director, Corporate Services, Dr Abdulmalik Halilu, stressed the need for African countries to move beyond resource ownership and build sustainable industrial capacity.
He said local content frameworks should support the development and use of cross-border African capacities, while promoting research and technology, local employment, strategic partnerships, supply-chain optimisation and the increased use of locally made goods.
NCDMB officials also participated in sessions on policy harmonisation, investment, financing, talent development and regional oil and gas industrial hubs.
The discussions highlighted access to capital, stable regulations, technology, skills development and regional cooperation as key to attracting investment and making Africa’s energy sector more competitive.
The Board said its participation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening African capacity and fostering an integrated, competitive and sustainable energy industry across the continent.
