TCN Nabs Suspected Vandal In Powerful Switchyard Raid

A routine security patrol at a major electricity transmission facility has led to the arrest of a 24-year-old man allegedly caught removing cables and wires from a critical power installation in Benin.

The suspect, identified as Wisdom Amaunam from Erediauwa Community, was apprehended at about 10am on Thursday, 22 October 2026, while allegedly tampering with a marshalling kiosk inside the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) 330kV switchyard.

TCN Benin Sub-Region said a security officer on patrol caught the suspect in the act of removing cables and wires from the facility.

He was subsequently handed over to the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for investigation.

The suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and possible arraignment.

Commending its security personnel and the NSCDC for their swift response, TCN warned that it would not tolerate vandalism, trespassing or sabotage of its installations.

The company also called on host communities and members of the public to report suspicious activities around transmission facilities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.

Vandalism of electricity infrastructure threatens power transmission and can disrupt electricity supply, making community vigilance and effective security essential to protecting critical national assets.
