Troops Foil Mass Abduction, Rescue Nine In Zamfara
Troops have thwarted a planned mass abduction in Zamfara State, rescuing nine civilians, including an infant, after terrorists ambushed vehicles in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on August 16 in Unguwar Rogo Village, where terrorists reportedly led by a suspected kingpin, Mallam Shuaibu, attacked passing vehicles after troops arrested some of their collaborators attempting to procure motorcycles and petrol for the group.
The attackers allegedly laid the ambush in a millet farm, targeting occupants of vehicles that lost control and veered into nearby bushes.
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, responded to a distress call and forced the terrorists to retreat into the surrounding bushes, preventing the planned abduction.
Nine civilians were rescued, although two women sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving medical treatment.
Troops are continuing operations in the area to track the fleeing terrorists, disrupt their support network and prevent further attacks on communities and road users.
