The General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Paul Koughna, has flagged off the 2026 Inter-Brigade Combat Proficiency Competition in Sokoto State.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Ibrahim Gambari, Koughna said the competition would assess troops’ physical fitness, leadership, discipline, professional knowledge and tactical preparedness.

Participants will undergo tests in marksmanship, map reading, swimming, military drills, endurance runs, weapon handling and other tactical exercises.

Koughna said continuous training and retraining were essential to maintaining the Army’s operational effectiveness, urging competitors to demonstrate discipline, determination and professionalism.

The Commander, 8 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Isidore Amah, described the competition as a strategic exercise designed to strengthen troops’ resilience, tactical competence and capacity to respond effectively to real-world operations.

The competition is also expected to promote healthy rivalry and esprit de corps among formations within the 8 Division.
