Inside Nigeria’s Air War: Journalists Witness Frontline Operations Against Terrorists

In an era where misinformation can spread as quickly as conflict, firsthand reporting from the battlefield is becoming increasingly vital to building public trust.
That was the focus of a recent Nigerian Air Force (NAF) media familiarisation visit to the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East, where defence correspondents were given rare access to frontline air operations against terrorist groups.
Led by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the journalists joined day and night patrols, interacted with pilots and ground crews, and spent time with troops serving on the frontlines.
The visit offered an unfiltered view of the planning, precision and coordination behind air missions supporting the fight against insurgency.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, said transparent communication and responsible reporting remain essential to strengthening public confidence in the military and showcasing the sacrifices of personnel working to restore peace.
Military commanders also highlighted the critical role of air power in intelligence gathering, surveillance, air interdiction and troop mobility, describing collaboration with the media as a key step in countering misinformation and promoting informed public discourse on national security.
