As Nigeria pushes ahead with reforms in the electricity sector, the Chairman of the Power and Energy Commissioners’ Forum in Nigeria, Prince Eka Williams, has said Nigerians are more interested in stable electricity than political debates surrounding the sector.
Speaking while interacting with some members of the Abuja Power and Energy Correspondents, APEC, the Commissioner hinted that during a stakeholders’ meeting on the implementation of the Electricity Act, he had commended the Minister of Power for demonstrating decisive leadership, describing the engagement as productive and reassuring.
Williams said strong leadership and open dialogue are beginning to strengthen confidence in Nigeria’s electricity reforms, with stakeholders expressing renewed optimism over the implementation of the Electricity Act.
He said concerns raised by stakeholders over aspects of the reform process were openly addressed, with the Minister pledging to work closely with regulators and other key players to ensure successful implementation in line with the renewed hope agenda.
Williams disclosed that a committee had been constituted to review contentious issues surrounding the Electricity Act and present a unified position within four weeks.
”Nigerians are not interested in the calibre of people holding office; they are interested in reliable and affordable electricity,” he said, stressing that collaboration among stakeholders remains crucial to transforming the power sector.
He noted that suspicion and misunderstandings among stakeholders could slow reforms, urging all parties to work together in delivering the reliable electricity supply Nigerians have long demanded.
