The growing threat of vandalism to Nigeria’s power infrastructure has prompted renewed collaboration between the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina State.
The partnership follows recent attacks on Towers T-219 and T-228 along the Katsina–Daura 132kV transmission line, which were discovered during a routine patrol.
Assistant General Manager, Transmission, TCN Katsina Sub-Region, Engr. Usman S. Idris, raised concerns over the incidents during a courtesy visit to the NSCDC Katsina State Command on 6 July 2026.
Idris, who led the TCN delegation, warned that vandalism and encroachment on transmission Right-of-Way pose serious threats to the integrity of the national grid and the stability of electricity supply.
He commended the NSCDC for its prompt response to previous security concerns and called for sustained collaboration in protecting critical national infrastructure.
Responding, the NSCDC Katsina State Commandant, Abbas Dan-Ile Moriki, said investigations into the vandalised towers had commenced.
Moriki assured TCN of the Command’s continued support, pledging closer coordination and proactive measures to tackle vandalism and Right-of-Way encroachment.
Both organisations also agreed to strengthen information sharing and security cooperation to safeguard transmission infrastructure across Katsina State.
