US Congressman Identifies Fulani Militants As Leading Threat To Nigerian Christians
Nigeria’s persistent security crisis has drawn renewed international scrutiny, with a United States lawmaker calling for greater attention to attacks on Christian communities, particularly in the Middle Belt.
US Congressman Riley Moore has identified Fulani militants as the leading perpetrators of violence against Christians in Nigeria, expressing concern that killings have continued despite ongoing counterterrorism operations.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, Moore said the administration of US President Donald Trump had made significant progress in the fight against Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), but argued that more must be done to address violence in the Middle Belt.
“Fulani militants are by far the largest perpetrators of violence against Christians in Nigeria,” Moore stated.
He called for stronger action to protect Christian communities and guarantee their right to live and worship without fear of attack.
Moore’s comments come amid sustained international concern over Nigeria’s security challenges, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and communal violence.
The Nigerian government has consistently maintained that the country’s security crisis is complex and multifaceted, while assuring that security agencies remain committed to combating violent crimes nationwide.
