CAS Hails Troops After Lassa School Rescue, Orders Sustained Offensive Against Terrorists
The rescue mission has reinforced the military’s confidence in intelligence-led operations, with the Nigerian Air Force insisting that closer coordination between air and ground troops remains vital in the fight against terrorism.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has praised troops of the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI and ground forces for rescuing students and teachers abducted during a terrorist attack on Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
Air Marshal Aneke described the successful operation as proof of the effectiveness of intelligence-driven joint military operations in protecting civilians and maintaining pressure on terrorist groups.
He said the rapid deployment of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets, backed by timely air support, disrupted the terrorists’ escape and enabled ground troops to engage them and rescue the victims.
One of the rescued victims, the school’s Vice Principal, Paul Namaske, said the arrival of military aircraft forced the attackers to scatter, creating an opportunity for the abducted students and teachers to escape as troops advanced.
The Air Chief also commended the courage and professionalism of the troops, while paying tribute to a soldier of Operation HADIN KAI and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force who lost their lives during the rescue mission.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to working with other security agencies to restore lasting peace across the country.
