As governments worldwide embrace digital transformation to improve public service, Nigeria’s civil servants have been urged to lead the charge through innovation, continuous learning and a commitment to excellence.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Dr. Binyerem Ukaire, made the call on Monday in Abuja while declaring open the 2026 Civil Service Week, stressing that innovation and technology-driven governance are critical to building a responsive and citizen-centred public service.
Speaking on the theme, “Transforming Public Institutions Through Advancing Innovation, Participation and Inclusion,” Ukaire urged workers to uphold the values of integrity, professionalism and accountability while embracing digital tools and new ways of working to enhance service delivery.
She described civil servants as the backbone of government administration and called on them to take ownership of ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the Federal Civil Service for greater efficiency and impact.
The week-long celebration also featured presentations on key reform areas, including capacity building, digitalisation, innovation, performance management, staff welfare and payroll transparency, with labour unions pledging support for efforts to strengthen institutional effectiveness and workforce development.
