NFF Raises Coaching Standards, Revives Top CAF Licence Programme
As global football becomes increasingly driven by elite coaching and officiating standards, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has launched a renewed push to develop world-class coaches and referees.
Speaking at the opening of a six-day CAF B-Licence refresher course in Abuja, NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, announced that Nigeria will resume the prestigious CAF A-Licence coaching programme in August for the first time in nine years.
Sanusi said the initiative forms part of NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau’s broader strategy to strengthen technical capacity across Nigerian football, alongside referee development programmes and plans to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) training equipment into the country.
Only 25 of the 50 participants in the refresher course will progress to the CAF A-Licence programme, as the federation seeks to produce coaches capable of competing at the highest levels of the game.
NFF Technical Director, Coach Augustine Eguavoen, said the federation remains committed to building a sustainable pipeline of highly skilled coaches to drive the future of Nigerian football.
