ECOWAS Launches Youth Awareness Campaign In The Gambia To Foster Regional Integration

Young people are increasingly being recognised as critical drivers of regional unity and development across West Africa.

In a move to strengthen youth participation in the integration process, the ECOWAS Field Awareness Campaign has been launched in The Gambia, engaging more than 250 students of Gambia Senior Secondary School in discussions on regional cooperation, peace, security and free movement within the ECOWAS community.

The initiative, launched on June 15, 2026, aims to deepen young people’s understanding of the opportunities and responsibilities that come with being citizens of the ECOWAS region.

Through interactive sessions and presentations, students explored ways they can contribute to building a more united, peaceful and prosperous West Africa.

A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the ECOWAS Club Gambia, a student-led platform designed to promote civic leadership, cultural exchange, active citizenship and peaceful dialogue among young people.

Organisers said the campaign forms part of broader efforts to raise awareness about ECOWAS programmes and encourage greater youth involvement in advancing regional integration and development.
