NCDC Raises Ebola Alert, Urges Nigerians To Stay Vigilant Amid Congo, Uganda Outbreaks
Amid renewed concerns over the spread of infectious diseases across Africa, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reassured Nigerians that there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country despite recent outbreaks reported in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
In a public health advisory issued on Saturday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said it has intensified surveillance systems for Ebola and other epidemic-prone diseases to prevent any possible outbreak in Nigeria.
The agency urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading false information capable of causing panic.
According to the advisory, Nigerians are encouraged to maintain regular hand hygiene, avoid contact with bodily fluids of sick persons, and stay away from dead animals or bushmeat from unknown sources.
The NCDC also advised members of the public to promptly report unusual illnesses to the nearest health facility and rely only on verified updates from official public health authorities.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and assured Nigerians that timely updates would continue to be provided as the situation develops.
Members of the public can access further information through the ncdc.gov.ng or contact the toll-free emergency hotline 6232.
