Cabinet Delay Raises Concerns As Civil Society Urges Soludo To Act Swiftly
At a time when effective governance depends heavily on structure and speed, delays in key political appointments are beginning to raise concerns among stakeholders in Anambra State.
The Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONet) has called on Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo to urgently appoint Commissioners, Special Advisers, governing boards, and heads of state agencies to ensure seamless governance and improved service delivery.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Prince Chris Azor, the group acknowledged the governor’s early strides at the inception of his administration in 2022, including the prompt appointment of key officials such as the Secretary to the State Government and Chief of Staff, which helped lay a strong foundation for governance.
ACSONet noted that Governor Soludo had, shortly after his inauguration on 17 March 2022, sworn in Commissioners by 9 April of the same year, a move it described as instrumental in activating government operations and enhancing coordination across ministries.
However, the group expressed concern that the current delay in constituting a full cabinet and leadership across critical institutions could slow down governance and create bottlenecks in decision-making.
“Appointments at this level are not mere formalities; they are essential for policy execution, institutional coordination, and effective service delivery,” the statement read, warning that even well-crafted reforms risk stagnation without the right leadership structures in place.
As a key driver of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in Anambra, ACSONet stressed that timely appointments would also strengthen transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement by creating more entry points for stakeholder participation.
The network urged the governor to act with urgency in constituting his full team, noting that such a move would accelerate decision-making, boost coordination, and reinforce public confidence in government.
ACSONet reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the state government to advance policies that improve the lives of Ndi Anambra, expressing optimism that the right structures would enable faster and more impactful governance.
