In an era where misinformation can rattle economies as quickly as missiles, global attention is turning to Abuja as a strategic hub for tackling the rising threat of information warfare.
The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria has announced that over 100 diplomatic missions, alongside representatives of the European Union, ECOWAS, top security and intelligence officials, policymakers, trade agencies and civil society groups, will gather in Abuja for a high-level international conference.
Scheduled for May 20, 2026, at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Diplomatic, Security, Trade, and Investment International Conference will focus on the theme: “Information Warfare (FIMI): Strengthening Global Security, Trade, and Investment Through Collaborative Truth: Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media.”
DICAN Chairman, Idehai Frederick, said the summit comes at a critical time when Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) is increasingly being deployed to destabilise international relations and disrupt global markets.
The conference is also set against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Gulf and the Middle East, which have driven up energy prices and cast uncertainty over the 2026 global trade outlook.
Organisers say discussions will centre on countering disinformation, preventing the spread of state-sponsored fake news, and restoring investor confidence through transparent information systems.
Stakeholders will also explore how diplomacy, intelligence, and the media can work together to separate propaganda from reality and promote peace through informed dialogue.
The event is expected to reinforce Nigeria’s growing role as a convening ground for critical global conversations on security and economic stability.
