33 Young Engineers Begin Specialist Pipeline Training To Strengthen Nigeria’s Energy Future
Nigeria’s drive to build home-grown expertise in the oil and gas sector received another boost as 33 young graduates began a 12-month specialist training programme in pipeline engineering, pigging, corrosion control and monitoring in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The training, organised under the Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited and MJD Oilfield Services Limited Nigerian Content Human Capital Development (NC HCD) Training Programme, in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), is aimed at equipping participants with practical skills to help protect and sustain the nation’s critical energy infrastructure.
The trainees, drawn from engineering, geology and related disciplines, will undergo classroom sessions, simulation-based learning, field demonstrations, on-the-job training, mentorship and continuous assessment.
Speaking at the opening, NCDMB’s Manager of Human Capital Development, Mrs Tarilate Bribena-Teide, said the programme would help build the technical capacity needed to prevent pipeline failures, protect the environment, and support the economy.
She added that the knowledge gained could position the trainees to contribute to major national projects, including the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano Gas Pipeline.
Representatives of Renaissance Africa and MJD Oilfield Services also praised the initiative, describing it as a strong investment in Nigerian talent and a reflection of the growing impact of local content development in the industry.
With the focus on practical exposure and industry readiness, the programme is expected to create a new pool of skilled professionals capable of supporting long-term infrastructure reliability in Nigeria’s energy sector.
