US Mission In Nigeria Marks 9/11 Anniversary, Honours Victims, Heroes

Twenty-four years on, the memory of the September 11 attacks remains etched in the world’s collective conscience as a reminder of resilience in the face of tragedy.

On Thursday, the United States Mission in Nigeria joined global commemorations, paying tribute to the nearly 3,000 lives lost during the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania, as well as those who later died from illnesses linked to the aftermath and rescue efforts.

In a post on its official X handle, @USinNigeria, the Mission wrote: “Today we honour and remember those who were lost 24 years ago on 9/11, and all who have died from illnesses due to the aftermath and rescue efforts. #NeverForget911.”

The solemn anniversary not only honours the victims but also underscores the enduring sacrifices of first responders and survivors who bore the health consequences of their bravery.

Across the United States and beyond, memorial services, moments of silence, and tributes will be held, reaffirming a global commitment to stand against terrorism and uphold the values of unity, freedom, and resilience.
