Ukraine Showcases Resilience, Unbroken Spirit, Three Years Of War, Condemns Fresh Russian Strike

More than three years since Russia launched its full-scale invasion, Ukraine continues to count its losses and assert its resilience. The war has killed thousands of civilians, displaced millions, and triggered global condemnation.

In Abuja, the Embassy of Ukraine showcased this struggle through a powerful photo exhibition titled “Three Years of Resilience: Ukraine in Photograph”, while also condemning Russia’s latest missile and drone strike that killed at least 18 people, including four children, and damaged the EU Delegation’s premises in Kyiv.

Speaking virtually from Kyiv, Ukraine’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Ivan Kholostenko, described the assault as a grave violation of international law, saying the killing of children is the gravest of crimes, one that requires firm international condemnation and accountability.

Russia is a terrorist state, and we call on all countries, including our partners in Africa, to recognise this status and intensify pressure on Russia,” he said.

The solemn ceremony included a condolence register, tributes to victims of the latest strike, and a guided tour of wartime photographs, artefacts and frontline memorabilia.

Ukraine’s Consul in Nigeria, Oleksii Samillo, praised Nigeria as a “like-minded nation”, underscoring Ukraine’s determination to keep contributing to agriculture, IT and industry even in the midst of war.

The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN), through its Chairman Idehai Frederick, pledged support for accurate and professional coverage of Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts in Nigeria, including new plans for journalist training on combating disinformation.

There was also a moment of silence, as visitors reflected on Ukraine’s thousand-year history, its enduring cultural identity, and the unyielding resilience of its people.
