China Grants Nigeria Zero-Tariff Access As Festival Strengthens Ties
Nigeria is set to benefit from a major economic boost as China announced zero-tariff treatment on all Nigerian exports, alongside 52 other African countries.
The announcement was made during the 2025 China–Nigeria Culture and Tourism Festival in Abuja, where Chinese Deputy Ambassador Zhou Hongyou described the move as “a new chapter” in the China–Nigeria partnership.
“President Xi Jinping has pledged that 100 percent of tariff lines for 53 African countries, including Nigeria, will now enjoy zero tariff treatment.
This will open wider doors for Nigerian goods in the Chinese market,” Zhou said.
Nigeria’s Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy welcomed the policy, noting that it would strengthen trade while boosting the creative and manufacturing sectors.
Ambassador Bolaji Akinremi, representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs, hailed the cultural festival as “a bridge of friendship” showcasing how cultural diplomacy complements economic cooperation.
The colourful Abuja festival featured traditional performances, exhibitions, fashion, and cuisine, underscoring the growing ties between Africa’s largest economy and Asia’s second-largest.
