NUJ FCT Applauds OAIC For Championing Girl-Child Education

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has commended the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) for spearheading an Enlightenment and Wellness Campaign on girl-child education in Abuja.

Speaking at the event, NUJ FCT Chairperson, Comrade Grace Ike, represented by the Council’s Treasurer, Comrade Sandra Chukwugekwu described education as a powerful tool for transforming lives, especially for girls.

She noted that empowering girls through education not only secures their future but uplifts families and communities out of poverty and marginalisation.

Comrade Ike praised OAIC’s grassroots efforts in creating awareness and providing skill acquisition opportunities for women and girls, pledging journalists’ continued support in amplifying such initiatives.

The campaign also saw renewed calls from educators, policymakers, and religious leaders to end early child marriage and invest more in girl-child education.

A representative of the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Angela Nkwocha, emphasised involving girls in decisions that affect them, while OAIC FCT Chairman, Reverend Timothy Amakom, challenged the outdated belief that educating girls is a waste.

Keynote speaker, Dr Nestor Ande-Philip, urged government, traditional, and religious institutions to ensure every girl has access to quality education.

Participants committed to intensifying advocacy and removing socio-economic barriers so that girls can pursue education free from discrimination and early marriage.
