Traffic Violations: Four Drivers Sentenced To Community Service In Abuja
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it sends a clear warning to all motorists who flout traffic rules as four traffic offenders have been handed 35 days of community service following their conviction during a Mobile Court sitting in Nyanya, Abuja.
The court, presided over by His Worship Maryam Alhaji, found the drivers guilty of various traffic offences ranging from dangerous driving to attempting to bribe an officer.
The convictions were made under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and the FRSC Establishment Act 2007.
Among the convicted was John Emenu, a second-time offender, who bagged 7 days of community service at the FRSC national headquarters for dangerous driving and license violations.
Mr Ekpo Chukwunonso, convicted for attempting to corrupt an FRSC official on duty, also got 7 days at the FCT Sector Command.
Another offender, Mr John Doe, received 14 days of community service at the Corps headquarters after being found guilty of multiple violations, including dangerous driving, road obstruction and route violations.
Mr Ajayi Adewoye, also a repeat offender, was sentenced to 7 days of service at the Nigeria Correctional Service headquarters for overloading and seatbelt infractions.
FRSC operatives apprehended the drivers during a special enforcement operation aimed at promoting road safety across the country.
Reacting to the judgment, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed described it as a necessary deterrent to others who habitually ignore road safety laws.
He applauded the synergy between the FRSC and the judiciary, stressing that such collaboration ensures that traffic laws are not only enforced but that offenders are held accountable.
The Corps Marshal warned, that there will be no more hiding place for traffic violators,” while also reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to stricter patrols and enforcement to keep Nigerian roads safe.
