Senior ISWAP Finance Chief Surrenders As Terrorist Defections Rise In North-East

As sustained military pressure continues to weaken terrorist networks in Nigeria’s North-East, a senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) finance operative has surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI, signalling what security forces describe as growing cracks within the group’s leadership.

The suspect surrendered to troops of 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade on Saturday along the Ladari-Jegarawa-Tunokalia axis of the Gamboru-Wulgo Main Supply Route.

According to the military, he served as the chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram and was responsible for managing the group’s finances and logistics.

He surrendered alongside two male children, while troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle and ₦40,000.

The development comes as about 46 terrorists and their family members have voluntarily surrendered to troops in recent days, following intensified land and air offensives against terrorist hideouts.

Military authorities said the latest surrender is expected to provide valuable intelligence to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations and further dismantle ISWAP’s operational network.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to restoring lasting peace in the North-East and urged remaining terrorists to surrender and embrace the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives.
