Military, Veterans Join Forces to Deepen Peacebuilding In North-West
As Nigeria continues to battle complex security challenges, the role of retired military personnel is increasingly being recognised as a vital bridge between security forces and local communities.
The Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General WB Idris, has pledged support for a peacebuilding initiative by the Association of Retired Members of the Nigerian Armed Forces (REMNAF), Zamfara State Chapter.
During a meeting at the Theatre Headquarters in Gusau, REMNAF Chairman, Major Adamu Maikano (Rtd), sought the military’s support for a proposed four-day mediation and conflict resolution accreditation training aimed at equipping retired service personnel with skills in negotiation, alternative dispute resolution and community peacebuilding.
Responding, Major General Idris praised the association for its continued commitment to national service, stressing that military operations alone cannot end insecurity without the active involvement of communities and other stakeholders.
He pledged the Theatre’s support for the training and confirmed that officers and soldiers would also participate.
The visit ended with a tour of the Theatre’s Wall of Heroes, where the delegation paid tribute to personnel of Operation FANSAN YAMMA who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
