TCN Boosts Power Supply In Yobe With New 60MVA Transformer

Efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s electricity transmission network have received a boost as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) commissioned a new 60MVA mobile power transformer at its Damaturu Transmission Substation in Yobe State.

The transformer, commissioned at 9:50 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, increases the substation’s transformation capacity from 120MVA to 180MVA, improving operational flexibility, reliability and power supply resilience during maintenance or outages.

TCN said the upgrade will enable the substation to handle higher electricity demand while making more bulk power available to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) for distribution to customers in Damaturu, Buni Yadi, Babangida, the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital and neighbouring communities.

According to the company, the project was funded through its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and forms part of ongoing efforts to expand and modernise Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure for more reliable and efficient electricity supply.
