IGP Disu Advocates For Science-Driven Policing As Enugu Unveils DNA Forensics Centre
Nigeria’s drive towards modern, evidence-based policing has received a boost with the commissioning of a new DNA forensics centre in Enugu State.
Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, said the Centre for DNA Forensics, Criminal Investigation and Biotechnology (DeFOCI) would strengthen criminal investigations and improve the administration of justice through scientific methods.
Speaking during a working visit to Enugu, Disu described the facility as a strategic national asset capable of supporting investigations into homicide, kidnapping, terrorism, armed robbery, cybercrime, human trafficking and sexual offences.
He commended Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, Godfrey Okoye University, the DNA Learning Center and other partners behind the project.
Addressing officers of the Enugu State Police Command, the IGP urged them to strengthen intelligence gathering, embrace continuous professional development and uphold discipline, integrity and respect for human rights.
He also pledged continued investment in personnel welfare, training and modern policing equipment, while warning that the Force would maintain zero tolerance for corruption, misconduct and abuse of office.
