Fatal Akure Robbery: Police Arrest Suspect, Hunt Fleeing Gang Members
A deadly night-time robbery in Akure has triggered a major police investigation, leading to the arrest of a suspect as detectives intensify efforts to track down other members of the gang.
The Ondo State Police Command said the attack occurred in the early hours of Friday, July 3, 2026, at Shagari Area, Akure, and claimed the life of Clement Idris.
According to preliminary investigations, armed robbers invaded the area, robbed occupants of a neighbouring apartment before allegedly dragging Idris outside his residence, attacking him with machetes and shooting him.
He was rushed to the General Hospital, Akure, where he was confirmed dead.
Police detectives who visited the scene recovered several exhibits, including bags, a mobile phone and an expended locally made gun shell believed to be connected to the attack.
The Command said one suspect has been arrested, while intelligence-led operations and forensic investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang and recover the weapons used.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu assured residents that those responsible for the killing would be brought to justice, urging the public to provide credible information that could help track down the fleeing suspects.
