Bauchi APC Governorship Primary Sparks Controversy As Group Rejects Declared Results

Fresh controversy has erupted within the Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress following allegations that no governorship primary election was conducted despite the announcement of results by the party’s primaries committee.

The Bauchi Progressives Forum has dismissed the results of the APC governorship primaries as “fictitious”, insisting that aspirants were pressured into stepping down rather than participating in a democratic contest.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Ibrahim Abdullahi, the group alleged that the figures announced by the committee were fabricated and did not reflect any actual voting process across the state.

According to the Forum, aspirants were invited by party stakeholders and persuaded to withdraw in favour of former Bauchi State Governor, Muhammad Abubakar, who eventually emerged as the party’s candidate.

“There was no governorship primary election in Bauchi State.

The aspirants were asked to step down because they were not given the opportunity of a credible direct primary,” the statement said.

The group maintained that no voting, accreditation or collation took place in any ward or local government area, challenging the primaries committee to provide evidence that an election was conducted.

“We had agents across the state and there was not a single vote cast or counted anywhere. There were no queues and no accreditation of voters. So where did these figures come from?” the Forum queried.

It further demanded photographic evidence of party members voting anywhere in Bauchi State, insisting such proof does not exist.

Mallam Abdullahi described the development as damaging to the democratic image of the APC, arguing that the announced results failed to reflect transparency and internal party democracy.

The Forum, however, clarified that it was not opposing the emergence of Muhammad Abubakar as the party’s governorship candidate, but objected to the claim that he emerged through a properly conducted election.

According to the statement, the party should have openly declared him a consensus candidate rather than announcing what it termed “invented figures” from a non-existent primary election.

The allegations are likely to intensify debate over internal democracy and consensus arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
