Easter Rush Turns Risky: FRSC Intercepts Vehicles Carrying Humans, Animals In Kaduna Crackdown
As Easter travel surges across Nigeria, a dangerous shortcut by transport operators, mixing passengers with goods and livestock, has drawn a firm response from authorities determined to prevent avoidable tragedies on the highways.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna State Sector Command, has intensified enforcement against the deadly practice of mixed loading, intercepting several articulated vehicles conveying over 100 passengers alongside animals and cargo.
The operation, carried out under the Easter Special Patrol in Kaduna, followed directives from the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, who described mixed loading as a “ticking time bomb” capable of turning vehicles into “rolling death traps.”
Sector Commander CC Tijani Iliyasu, who led the enforcement, said the apprehended vehicles were found along key transport corridors, exposing occupants to severe risks including crushing injuries from shifting goods and attacks or injuries from livestock in the event of a crash.
According to the Corps, beyond the immediate threat to human life, mixed loading undermines vehicle stability, weakens braking systems, and significantly increases the likelihood of fatal accidents.
The FRSC reiterated its zero-tolerance stance, warning drivers and transport operators nationwide to desist from such violations or face arrest and prosecution.
It also urged road users to adopt responsible behaviour during the Easter season, a period typically marked by heavy traffic and heightened accident risks.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the Corps called for collective responsibility, stressing that road safety is a shared duty that must not be compromised.
