APC Fires Back: ADC Crisis ‘Self-Inflicted’, Not Tinubu’s Making
In Nigeria’s charged political climate, accusations often travel faster than facts, but the ruling party insists this latest storm is built on shaky ground.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly dismissed allegations by a faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by David Mark, accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of orchestrating a one-party state ahead of the 2027 elections.
At a press conference in Abuja, the APC described the claims as “baseless propaganda,” arguing that Nigeria’s multi-party system remains intact with 19 registered political parties capable of contesting elections.
The party clarified that the ADC’s current turmoil stems from internal leadership disputes and legal missteps, not external interference.
According to the APC, a Court of Appeal ruling dismissed the faction’s case and directed all parties to maintain the status quo pending further proceedings, an order the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is simply enforcing.
It also criticised the ADC faction for allegedly defying court orders by proceeding with party activities, warning that such actions undermine democratic norms and due process.
The call for the removal of INEC leadership, APC added, reflects a misunderstanding of constitutional procedures.
The ruling party further argued that opposition credibility cannot be built through press conferences, but through electoral performance and public trust, areas it claims the ADC coalition has struggled to demonstrate.
Ultimately, the APC urged the opposition to “look inward,” insisting that internal crises, not presidential influence, are at the heart of the dispute.
