History Made: Soludo Appoints Chiamaka Nnake As Anambra’s First Female, Youngest SSG

In a landmark move that underscores a shift towards youth inclusion and gender representation in governance, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has appointed Mrs Chiamaka Nnake as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), making her the first female and youngest person to ever hold the position in the state’s history.

The appointment, announced on Monday, signals a strategic push by the Soludo administration to consolidate reforms with a blend of experience, innovation and technocratic leadership.

At 39, Nnake brings over 13 years of experience spanning finance, economic planning and public sector strategy.

She most recently served as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Anambra State, where she played a pivotal role in resource mobilisation and socio-economic development.

She also chaired Solution Fun City Limited and held key positions across major state institutions, including the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, the Internal Revenue Service Board and the Small Business Agency.

Widely recognised for driving reforms, Nnake has served as Anambra’s Reform Champion for Ease of Doing Business and focal person for Social Investment Programmes.

She is also Nigeria’s Chairperson for the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity (HOPE) Programme.

Before joining public service, she was a Senior Strategy Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Nigeria, where she led over 30 engagements across multiple sectors. Her contributions earned her the firm’s CEO Award in 2021.

She was also instrumental in developing the Anambra Vision 2070 blueprint, a long-term development strategy aimed at transforming the state’s economic future.

An alumna of Lagos Business School, Nnake holds an MBA and graduated with First-Class Honours in Accounting from Benson Idahosa University.

She is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and has completed executive training at Harvard Kennedy School.

She is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Policy.

Her appointment is widely seen as a bold statement of intent by the Soludo administration, prioritising competence, reform-driven leadership and inclusive governance.
