Obaigbena Launches LekeeLekee, Africa-Focused Social Platform Built For Low-Data Users
In a digital world often designed far from African realities, a new homegrown platform is betting that speed, access and community will win the next wave of users.
Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of the THISDAY/ARISE Media Group, has officially unveiled LekeeLekee, a new social media platform developed as part of the group’s digital expansion.
The app is now live on the App Store, Google Play and the web, with a Progressive Web App option to ensure access across devices and connectivity levels.
Described as a fast, low-data “super app”, LekeeLekee is engineered to perform optimally in low-bandwidth environments. It offers high-speed feeds, video sharing, instant messaging with voice notes, community groups and built-in content moderation tools.
The platform was developed by ARISE Broadcast and THISDAY Media Group to serve underserved networks and communities.
Obaigbena said LekeeLekee responds to the disconnect between global platforms and local realities.
“For too long, global platforms have been built far from our realities. LekeeLekee is our answer, fast, fair and open, amplifying voices rather than extracting them,” he said.
Industry watchers say the move signals THISDAY/ARISE’s entry into the competitive social media space, leveraging its strong media footprint to build a homegrown digital alternative and foster more inclusive online communities.
