APC Unveils High-Powered Council To Drive FCT Area Councils Election Campaign
As the battle for grassroots power in Abuja quietly gathers pace, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has moved to firm up its strategy with the inauguration of a heavyweight national campaign council ahead of the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Councils elections.
The party has scheduled the inauguration of its National Campaign Council for Wednesday, 11 February 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the APC National Working Committee (NWC) Hall, National Secretariat, 40 Blantyre Street, Abuja.
The inauguration of the 137-member committee, will formally kick-start the party’s coordinated push to secure victories across the six FCT area councils.
According to details released by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, the committee will be chaired by Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, with Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, serving as co-chairman.
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, will function as Secretary of the council.
The composition of the council signals the APC’s intent to deploy experienced political hands and national figures to strengthen its footing in the nation’s capital, where local council elections often mirror broader political sentiments and serve as a litmus test for party structures at the grassroots.
With campaigns expected to intensify in the coming weeks, the inauguration is seen as a strategic step to harmonise mobilisation, messaging and party coordination across the FCT, as contenders prepare for a keenly contested race.
