Ability in Disability: Anambra Disability Commission Sets 2026 Agenda With Retreat, Prayers
In a season when institutions are under pressure to deliver impact with empathy, the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission has begun 2026 by aligning purpose, people and values, placing inclusion at the heart of governance.
The Commission on 21 January held its staff retreat and prayers summit at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, drawing staff, partners and members for reflection, capacity-building and spiritual renewal.
Chairman, Barr. Bertrand Chuks Ezewuzie, urged participants to “build bridges through skills, responsibility and communication,” stressing that ability in disability opens doors to opportunity despite physical limitations.
Sessions reinforced teamwork and disability etiquette, highlighting respectful engagement across disability types, while a refresher on the Commission’s history and mandate underscored its role in enforcing Anambra’s disability law and promoting full inclusion.
The day culminated in prayers and exhortations on order, integrity, service and sacrifice, with intercessions for the state and its leadership, including Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
In his closing remarks, Ezewuzie thanked partners and volunteers, praised the Anambra State Government for inclusive strides, and called for deeper participation of persons with disabilities in governance, charging staff to translate the retreat’s lessons into measurable impact across communities.
