NUJ FCT Moves To Unlock Affordable Homes For Journalists In Partnership Talks With Tayan Group
In a city where rising property costs continue to shut many workers out of home ownership, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council is pushing for practical solutions, starting with strategic partnerships that can put roofs over journalists’ heads.
The Council on Wednesday opened talks with Tayan Group Construction in Abuja, seeking collaboration on affordable housing for journalists and support to fast-track the completion of its ultra-modern Congress Hall project.
Led by the NUJ FCT Chairman, Ms. Grace Ike, the delegation described the engagement as part of broader efforts to strengthen journalists’ welfare and professional infrastructure in the nation’s capital.
Ike appealed to Tayan Group to support the Congress Hall project through construction materials, technical expertise and other forms of assistance, noting that the facility is designed to serve as a hub for media training, professional engagements and improved welfare.
She also outlined areas for partnership, including mass housing schemes for journalists, capacity building, community development initiatives and stronger collaboration on urban development.
Responding, Tayan Group Managing Director, Mr. Akinjide Fagbemi, described the engagement as timely and affirmed the company’s readiness to work with the NUJ FCT Council.
He disclosed that the firm offers land and housing options across Abuja for different income levels, with prices starting from as low as ₦600,000, alongside flexible payment plans and mortgage options that can stretch up to 20 years.
Fagbemi further assured the Council of a planned visit to the NUJ FCT Secretariat to explore specific areas of support for the ongoing Congress Hall project.
The partnership discussions signal a renewed push by NUJ FCT to translate welfare promises into concrete housing and infrastructure solutions for journalists in Abuja.
