IGP Commissions Lagos Police Command Band, Hails Institutional Growth and Professionalism

In a move that underscores the importance of strong institutional culture in modern policing, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has commissioned the Lagos State Police Command Band, describing it as a strategic step in strengthening discipline, identity and professionalism within the Force.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the IGP noted that the establishment of a dedicated band for the Lagos Command, for the first time since its creation, corrects a long-standing structural gap and reflects leadership that pays attention to lasting institutional development.

Egbetokun praised the historic role of the Nigeria Police Band in projecting the Force positively through musical excellence and ceremonial dignity, adding that beyond entertainment, the band represents discipline, unity and national purpose.

He explained that the new Lagos Command Band should be seen as part of a broader effort to build enduring institutional assets, alongside other recent initiatives such as the foundation-laying of a Multi-Purpose Hall in the command.

The Police Chief commended the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, and the command leadership for their initiative and follow-through, urging other state commands to emulate the approach by deliberately strengthening internal structures that promote professionalism and pride in service.

Addressing members of the newly commissioned band, the IGP charged them to set high standards from the outset, noting that their conduct and performance would shape the reputation of the unit and reflect the values of the Nigeria Police Force nationwide.

He concluded by officially commissioning the Lagos State Police Command Band for service to the public, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to building credible, disciplined and people-centred policing institutions.
