CLO Appeals To Soludo Over Looming Leadership Crisis In Omasi Community
Amid rising tensions over a disputed town union leadership, the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), Anambra State Branch, has urged Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo to urgently intervene to avert a breakdown of peace in Omasi community, Ayamelum Local Government Area.
The group said the crisis stemmed from the failure of the former Town Union President-General to present a stewardship report at the community’s general meeting and election held on 31 December 2025, as stipulated by the Omasi constitution.
According to CLO, the development led to a vote of no confidence and the subsequent emergence of Mr Sunday Makor as consensus President-General, in line with the traditional rotational arrangement favouring Umuata village.
In a statement titled “It is only justice, equity and truth that precipitate peace and rapid development,” and signed by its chairman, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, CLO called on the state government to formally recognise Mr Makor, warning that continued delay could inflame tensions in the community.
The organisation also cautioned against any attempt to instigate violence, stressing that those found culpable would be held accountable, while urging strict adherence to constitutional provisions in future town union elections.
CLO appealed to all Omasi indigenes to respect the outcome of the December 31 general meeting in the interest of peace, unity and development in the community.
