NAF Pounds Terrorists In Timbuktu Triangle, Opens Route For Ground Offensive
In Nigeria’s counter-terrorism war, air superiority is increasingly shaping outcomes on the ground.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has once again demonstrated this strategic edge with a precision air operation that dismantled terrorist enclaves and cleared the way for advancing troops in the troubled Timbuktu Triangle.
NAF air assets, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, struck terrorist hideouts at AbbagaJiri on 8 January 2026, following credible multi-source intelligence confirming the presence of fighters, structures and concealed logistics facilities in the area.
The coordinated air interdiction involved surveillance and precision strikes aimed at degrading terrorist capabilities while protecting non-combatants.
Confirming the success of the mission, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, said the operation reflected the Air Force’s resolve to dominate the air domain in support of joint operations.
He noted that the strikes denied terrorists freedom of movement, sanctuary and logistics, while effectively shaping the battlespace for ground forces.
According to the NAF, the targeted structures were destroyed, and armed elements converging on the location were neutralised in follow-up engagements.
Ground troops advancing into the area later confirmed the effectiveness of the air strikes, validating the success of the joint air-land operation.
Air Marshal Aneke reaffirmed that NAF operations would remain intelligence-driven and relentless, stressing that sustained pressure would continue until terrorist networks are completely dismantled.
