Christmas: Tuggar Reaffirms Nigeria’s Commitment To Religious Harmony and Social Cohesion
At a time when global tensions and identity-based divisions continue to test societies, Nigeria has restated its resolve to unity, tolerance and mutual respect among all faiths.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, who gave this assurance in his Christmas message, extended warm Christmas greetings to Christians in Nigeria and across the diaspora.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to religious freedom, peaceful coexistence and national unity.
Ambassador Tuggar described the season as one of reflection, compassion and renewal, noting that its values align with Nigeria’s rich diversity and shared cultural heritage.
He stressed that Christmas offers an opportunity for Nigerians to recommit to dialogue, mutual respect and collective responsibility in sustaining peace and stability.
The Minister assured that the government will continue to strengthen institutions to protect all religious communities, promote social cohesion and ensure harmonious coexistence nationwide.
He emphasised that the safety, dignity and rights of Nigerians of all faiths, both at home and abroad, remain central to Nigeria’s policy direction and diplomatic engagements.
According to him, Nigeria is founded on freedom of worship and respect for all beliefs, adding that no citizen should be excluded or marginalised on account of faith.
Ambassador Tuggar urged Nigerians to embrace unity, patience and hope during the festive season, stressing that the nation’s strength lies in its diversity and shared destiny.
He concluded by wishing Christians a peaceful Christmas and a New Year marked by good health, renewed purpose and collective progress.
