Papiri Rescue: Nigeria Ends The Year With Hope As All 230 Abducted Pupils Regain Freedom
Relief and cautious celebration swept across Nigeria as the Federal Government confirmed the rescue of all 230 pupils abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, bringing to a close weeks of fear, uncertainty and national anguish.
The successful rescue of the remaining 130 pupils and staff, announced on Tuesday, marks a defining moment of triumph for the country’s security architecture and a rare piece of good news as the year draws to an end.
Authorities confirmed that no child remains in captivity, easing the pain of families who have lived in torment since the abduction.
According to the Federal Government, the newly freed pupils are being formally handed over to the Niger State Government and will soon be reunited with their families.
The operation, described as courageous and painstaking, underscores Nigeria’s renewed determination to protect its citizens, particularly vulnerable children.
In a statement signed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government expressed deep empathy with parents and guardians over the trauma endured, while wishing the families a smooth healing process, a joyful reunion, and a peaceful Christmas season.
For many Nigerians, the Papiri rescue is more than a security success, it is a reminder that hope, though often tested, can still prevail.
