Abuja-Lokoja Gridlock: FRSC Deploys Reinforcements As Holiday Traffic Peaks

As seasonal travel intensifies and Nigeria’s highways feel the pressure of festive movement, the Abuja-Lokoja Road has once again become a critical test of traffic discipline and emergency response.

In response to the worsening gridlock along the busy corridor, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has ordered the immediate deployment of additional officers and tow trucks to the affected areas.

The move is aimed at easing congestion and ensuring the prompt removal of broken-down vehicles and other obstructions that have crippled traffic flow.

According to the FRSC boss, the current situation is largely driven by a surge in vehicular movement typical of this period, compounded by ongoing construction at several points along the road.

He, however, noted that human factors remain a major contributor, particularly the actions of undisciplined and impatient motorists who drive against traffic in a bid to beat the gridlock, often worsening the situation.

The Corps Marshal stressed that FRSC personnel are fully mobilised to manage traffic and restore order but warned that their efforts can only succeed with the cooperation of road users.

He urged motorists to obey traffic rules, exercise patience, and follow the directives of officers on duty to ensure a smoother and safer journey for all.

The Abuja-Lokoja Road remains one of the country’s most strategic routes, linking the Federal Capital Territory to several parts of the North and South.

Authorities say sustained compliance by drivers will be key to preventing recurring traffic chaos along the corridor.
