High Tension In Court As Judge Orders Nnamdi Kanu Out During Judgment Delivery
A dramatic scene unfolded at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday as Justice James Omotosho ordered the removal of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, from the courtroom following persistent disruptions that stalled proceedings.
The tense moment underscored the charged atmosphere surrounding one of Nigeria’s most closely watched trials.
Shortly after the court convened to begin delivering judgment on the terrorism charges filed by the Federal Government, Kanu objected vehemently, insisting the court could not proceed without allowing him to submit a final written address.
He challenged the judge to cite the specific legal provision barring him from doing so and repeatedly interrupted the session.
His actions forced Justice Omotosho to suspend proceedings temporarily, directing security operatives to escort Kanu out after warnings proved unsuccessful.
Earlier, the court had dismissed multiple fresh applications from Kanu, with the judge noting that the issues raised had been previously argued and resolved.
Justice Omotosho also refused Kanu’s request to elevate the matter to the Court of Appeal, citing Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015, which prohibits staying criminal trials.
Kanu’s latest bail bid was similarly declined, though the court acknowledged that some of the concerns he raised would be addressed in the substantive judgment.
Proceedings have since resumed, and the court has commenced delivering its long-awaited judgment in the high-profile case.
