‘Return To Your Roots’: Ogilisi Igbo Urges Ndi Igbo Worldwide To Reclaim Ancestral Spiritual Identity
By Sunny A. David, Onitsha
At a time when many young Igbo people are searching for identity and meaning in an increasingly fragmented world, renowned Igbo spiritual leader Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka (Ogilisi Igbo) is calling for a return to the spiritual foundations that shaped Igbo civilisation for generations.
In a recent sermon, Ogilisi Igbo urged Ndi Igbo across the globe to reconnect with the “original spiritual blueprint” handed down by their ancestors.
He highlighted what he described as two sacred trinities that govern human existence:
The cosmic trinity, Sun, Moon and Earth
The biological trinity, Father, Mother and Self
According to him, these visible and natural forces represent the true origins of life and should form the basis of Igbo spirituality.
Ogilisi Igbo criticised the widespread embrace of foreign religions, arguing that many of them “disconnect the individual from nature and blur the path to spiritual truth.”
He insisted that honouring one’s parents, lineage and the forces of nature is essential for personal balance and the preservation of Igbo identity.
He urged Igbo families at home and abroad to revive these ancestral practices, saying they hold the key to cultural renewal, spiritual clarity and a stronger sense of identity.
The spiritual leader concluded with a rallying message: Ndi Igbo must rediscover who they are by returning to the traditions that sustained their forebears.
