In a resounding testament to his enduring passion for sports and youth empowerment, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has been honoured with the prestigious Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN) National Order of Sports Distinguished Award at the association’s 60th anniversary celebration held at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The recognition celebrates Governor Sule’s visionary leadership and massive investment in sports infrastructure, talent development, and youth engagement, both within Nasarawa State and across Nigeria.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Kwanta Yakubu, Governor Sule expressed deep appreciation to the national leadership of SWAN, led by President Benjamin Isaiah, for acknowledging his administration’s strides in sports advancement.

“This award is a validation of the collective efforts of Nasarawa State’s sports community and our deliberate commitment to harness sports as a catalyst for youth empowerment and community cohesion,” he said.

Governor Sule reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to make Nasarawa State a leading hub for sports excellence through sustained investment in infrastructure, talent discovery, and hosting of national events.

He also pledged to support SWAN’s ₦2 billion fundraising drive for the construction of its first National Secretariat in Abuja.

“My recognition by SWAN will further spur me to deepen our sports development agenda and consolidate Nasarawa’s position as a force in Nigerian sports,” he added.

SWAN President, Comrade Benjamin Isaiah, described the Diamond Jubilee as a moment to honour individuals and institutions that have played pivotal roles in shaping the nation’s sports landscape.

Themed “The Power of Sports Media: Honouring Its Legacy and Shaping the Future,” the event brought together top government officials, sports administrators, and journalists.

Other governors honoured include Dr Alex Otti (Abia), Senator Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Sir Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), and several others.

Governor Sule’s latest honour cements his reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading champions of grassroots sports and youth development.
