FG Unveils Digital App To Revolutionise Primary Healthcare Delivery

In a major leap towards digitising Nigeria’s health system, the Federal Government has launched the Automated National Standing Orders (NSO) Mobile Application, a groundbreaking tool designed to enhance the efficiency and accountability of community health service delivery across the country.

Speaking at the unveiling in Abuja, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, described the innovation as “a bold step towards a more efficient, accountable and people-centred health system driven by technology.”

Developed by the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN) with support from the Health Information System Agency (HISA), the app digitises the National Standing Orders, the clinical guidelines that empower Community Health Practitioners (CHPs) to manage common illnesses at the primary healthcare level.

Dr Salako noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, adding that by automating Standing Orders, Nigeria is transforming static manuals into real-time clinical decision tools that will improve diagnostic accuracy, speed up treatment, and strengthen accountability through digital audit trails.

The Minister announced a two-year transition period for all CHPs to be trained before the app becomes mandatory by 2027, describing it as a “landmark in Nigeria’s digital health journey.”

He commended the CHPRBN and HISA teams for their leadership in modernising the system and urged health workers to embrace the change.

“Technology alone is not enough, professionalism and commitment will determine the success of this innovation,” he said.

With this development, Nigeria takes a significant stride toward building a smarter, technology-driven primary healthcare system, one that promises to save lives, especially in underserved communities.
