Defence Minister Commends NAF’s Vision As New Headquarters Annex Opens In Abuja

In a move aimed at boosting efficiency and strengthening Nigeria’s airpower capabilities, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Monday, 6 October 2025, commissioned its new Headquarters Annex Complex in Gudu, Abuja.

The facility, designed to decongest the overstretched main headquarters in Garki, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance institutional capacity, improve personnel welfare, and reinforce the NAF’s operational effectiveness.

The Minister of Defence, Dr Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who performed the commissioning, praised the NAF leadership for its foresight and commitment to transformation.

He described the project as a bold step that reflects resilience, vision, and strategic planning, adding that since its establishment in 1964, the Air Force has grown significantly in scope and responsibility.

According to Dr Abubakar, relocating key branches — including the Air Secretary, Standards and Evaluation, Transformation and Innovation, and the 051 Personnel Management Group, will ease congestion and provide a stronger foundation for administrative and operational excellence.

He also lauded the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, for aligning the initiative with his command philosophy of maintaining a highly motivated force through welfare-driven infrastructural renewal.

Speaking earlier, Air Marshal Abubakar explained that the Gudu Annex was deliberately acquired and remodelled to create a more conducive work environment and strengthen coordination across key departments.

“This commissioning stands as a testament to our dynamism, resilience, and forward-looking posture,” he stated.

Both the Minister and the Chief of the Air Staff expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support and investment in Nigeria’s defence architecture.

The event was attended by top military and political leaders, including the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, Service Chiefs, and members of the National Assembly Committees on Air Force.
