Tuggar Praises Nigeria’s UNGA Address As Bold, Inclusive and Rooted In Africa’s Realities

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has hailed the national statement delivered at the 80th United Nations General Assembly by Vice President Kashim Shettima as a powerful blend of vision and realism.

Speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, Shettima’s address was described by Tuggar as “forward-looking and deeply rooted in Africa’s realities,” striking a balance between Nigeria’s national priorities and its regional obligations.

The Minister applauded the call for UN reform and fair representation, noting that Nigeria had once again positioned Africa as a key player in shaping global decisions.

On peace and security, he highlighted Nigeria’s frontline role in stabilising the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin, while also serving as a guarantor of peace across the continent.

Tuggar further pointed to economic diplomacy, climate action and digital inclusion as central to the speech, saying they align with Africa’s wider aspirations under ECOWAS and AfCFTA as well as President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He described the address as “a sub-regional call to action,” reaffirming that no country or region can prosper unless all its people are included.
