Peace Centre Urges Tolerance, Credible Elections As Nigeria Marks International Day Of Peace

The President of the International Peace and Civic Responsibility Centre (IPCRC), Prince Chris Azor, has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, justice and tolerance as the world commemorates the 2025 International Day of Peace.

In a message to mark the occasion, Prince Azor noted that peace is not simply the absence of war but the presence of justice, equity and respect for human dignity.

He warned against violence, hate speech, fake news and electoral malpractice, which he said continue to undermine Nigeria’s democracy and unity.

The IPCRC President stressed that the forthcoming Anambra governorship election presents a vital opportunity for citizens and politicians alike to demonstrate civic responsibility through peaceful and credible polls.

He urged political actors to focus on ideas, achievements and development plans rather than resorting to divisive rhetoric, vote buying or ballot snatching.

Prince Azor also appealed to youths to channel their energy into innovation and nation-building, and urged media, civil society and traditional leaders to amplify voices of peace and reconciliation.

Reaffirming IPCRC’s commitment to conflict prevention and peacebuilding, he said: “Peace is a shared responsibility. From our homes to the ballot box, we can all be agents of peace.”
