DSS Petitions X Over Sowore’s Post On President Tinubu

The Department of State Services, DSS has written to the Chairman and CEO of X Corp, demanding the urgent suspension of the verified account of activist and politician Omoyele Sowore, @YeleSowore, over what they describe as “misleading information” and “hate speech” against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In the letter, dated 25 August 2025, posted on its X handle @OfficialDSSNG officials cited a post in which Sowore referred to the President as a “criminal” while accusing him of lying about corruption in Nigeria.

The petition alleges that the comments amount to cybercrime, incitement to violence, and an attempt to discredit the President before the international community.

The authorities warned that the post had already sparked street protests among some supporters of the President, heightening political tension and threatening national security.

They further argued that the comments breached several Nigerian laws, including the Cybercrimes Act and the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act.

The government insists the tweet is “dangerous, false and offensive” and has called on X to deactivate Sowore’s account to prevent further unrest.
