Anambra Lawmaker Defects From Labour Party To YPP Ahead Of Governorship Poll
A serving member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Henry Mbachu, has dumped the Labour Party (LP) for the Young Progressive Party (YPP), pledging his full support for YPP’s governorship candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, ahead of the November 8 election.
Mbachu, who represents Awka South Constituency 1, announced his defection in a broadcast, describing it as a “carefully considered decision” rooted in the best interest of his constituents.
He said Chukwuma’s manifesto aligned with his legislative agenda and offered a compelling vision for Anambra youths, promising a shift “from consumption to production” through industrial development.
“For the November 8 election, I am going to work with the candidate who has presented the best manifesto that suits the people of Awka and Okpuno,” Mbachu declared, adding that Chukwuma had assured his constituency of priority benefits in government projects.
Political watchers say the move is a significant shake-up in the build-up to the election.
